Day 1 — Nairobi to Samburu Frontier & Ewaso Nyiro Sundowner
Depart Nairobi early in the morning in a custom-built 4x4 safari land cruiser, driving north past the fertile, green slopes of Mount Kenya. Watch the landscape dramatically shift into semi-arid plains as you descend into the northern frontier. Arrive at your luxury safari lodge anchored along the banks of the river inside the Samburu National Reserve in time for lunch. In the afternoon, set out on your first game drive through the unique doum palm groves and thorny scrublands. Look out for massive herds of elephants gathering at the riverbanks before returning to camp for a campfire dinner under the stars.
Day 2 — Full Day Tracking the Arid Wildlife Specialists
Dedicate the entire day to tracking the "Samburu Special Five"—rare, adapted wildlife species unique to this region: the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx, and the long-necked gerenuk feeding on its hind legs. Spend the morning exploring the rugged tracks along the Ewaso Nyiro River, a major magnet for leopards, lions, and large prides of wild dogs. After a luxury picnic lunch under a shady acacia tree, spend your afternoon seeking out cheetahs on the dry plains or opt for an authentic cultural visit to a nearby Samburu village to learn about their vibrant nomadic customs and traditional beadwork.
Day 3 — Sunrise Savannah Watch & Return Route to Nairobi
Awaken to the crisp morning air for a dawn game drive, capturing the golden hour light striking the dramatic red-sand soils and the distant silhouette of the Mathew's Range. This early window is the prime time to view active predators returning from their night hunts. Return to the lodge for a hearty al fresco breakfast before checking out. Enjoy a final, relaxed en-route game drive as you head toward the reserve gates. Your drive back to Nairobi climbs steadily back through the central highlands, arriving in the capital by late afternoon.
